Dear Families,

As we finish up February and head into March we begin Reading Month!!  Our theme this year is ‘Oceans’.  We have many exciting activities planned throughout the month including ocean videos, assemblies, Surfing on the Wii, and many more!   Please encourage your child to read at home as well.  They will have their name entered into a prize drawing for each week that they participate. 

Our spring parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for this week Thursday, March 1, from 4-7pm and Monday, March 5, from 8-11am.  Reminders and progress reports were sent home with your child on Friday.  Please be sure to check the date and time of your scheduled conference and return the slip to me as soon as possible. If you are unable to make it on your day or time, please let me know and we can work something else out.

After being spoiled by some warmer weather, we do have quite a bit of snow again.  Please remember to send all necessary snow clothes to school with your child each day:  snowpants, coat, hat, mittens, and boots.  If they do not have snowpants or boots, they need to stay on the cement area during recess, and that’s not quite as much fun for them.

Dear Families,

        We have quite a bit going on next week!  Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, and it is our 100^th day of Kindergarten—I don’t know where the time has gone. J We will be doing some 100^th day activities in the morning, and then our Valentine’s party will start shortly after lunch.  I did send home a class list with each student yesterday to help them with writing names on their Valentines.  If you are planning to send Valentines with your child, please make sure that there is one for each student. 

            We will begin practicing the letter Ll next week and our new sight words will be my and we.  I will be sending home sight word cards next week.  We have also begun talking about an author’s purpose for writing a book.  When you read with your child, ask them what they think the author’s purpose was for writing that book.  We have met our newest beanie friend – Peekin’ Poodle.  She is our reading cheerleader!  Ask your child to practice the cheer for you! J

            In science, we have been learning about healthy bodies and healthy teeth.  February is dental health month.  Please encourage your child to brush each morning and night to keep a clean and healthy smile.
