Hello All!
I hope you are staying warm in this cold and snowy weather we’re having right now!   The kiddos sure are enjoying their time outside to play in it though! With the weather in mind, please be sure that your child has ALL necessary outside clothing to play in the snow each day.  Please also remember to send shoes to school so they don’t have to clomp around in their boots all day.  J

Here are a few notes from the Dates to Remember section:
Our Elementary Christmas program will be Monday, December 15.  Students should arrive at 6:40, and the program begins at 7.  Please have your child dressed in their nicest clothes.

2nd Grade Santa’s Workshop will be on Tuesday, December 16.  The 2nd grade classes will be rotating to each of the three classrooms to create special Christmas gifts and activities to take home to their families.  There will be more information coming.

Our Classroom Christmas Party will be on Thursday, December 18.  We ask that each child takes in a $3-$5 gift.  The girls should bring a gift for a girl, and the boys a gift for a boy.  Please be mindful of the dollar amount of the gift you purchase.  If the gift costs $5.50, please ask your child to choose something else.  Going above or below the range can lead to hurt feelings in during the party.  Thank you for your help!!

There will be more information on school and classroom Christmas events coming home when all of the details get worked out.  Please be looking for these notes, and I’ll keep you posted here as well.

We will be discussing the non-fiction genre of expository text again this week.  Our Essential Question is: What are features of different animal habitats? Your child will be excited to share what he or she has learned about these habitats.

Math:
This week we will be continuing our focus on strategies to help us learn and memorize our subtraction facts as well as strategies to help us solve subtraction number stories.
We are working hard on our Rocket Math!  This is to help us memorize our addition facts and see how many we can answer in 1 minute.  The students are really enjoying it!

Thank you again for all of your love and support for your children!  I've spoken with many of you this week on various concerns, and I welcome them all.  I appreciate you working as a team with me and with our school to make your child's education as successful as possible!

Happy First Week!

Welcome to Second Grade!  We've had a spectacular first few days, and we have been busy!  Thank you for sending in all of your child's supplies!  We are feeling very well stocked to start our year.

For the most part this week, we've just been practicing our classroom routines and trying to get back into the swing of things.  In math we have reviewed some counting skills.  We have also started some of our daily calendar routines such as date, attendance, number of the day, counting money, and weather.  In reading we have talked about visualizing while we read.  We have practiced making a picture in our head to see what the characters are doing in a story.

In our "Dates to Remember" section, I noted that Picture Day is next week Tuesday, September 9.  Because we are in 2nd grade, and it is the K-2 picture day, our pictures are usually not taken until after lunch and lunch recess.  If you have a certain shirt that you would like your child to wear for pictures and are concerned about them maybe spilling their lunch or getting too dirty outside, please send a spare with them to change into for lunch and recess.

Thanks again for your help and support for your child and our classroom as we begin this school year.  I'm looking forward to a great year!

o   This week began our end of the year assessing.  Please be sure that in these last few weeks as the weather is getting nicer, days are longer, and nights are shorter, that your child is getting enough rest and a good breakfast before school.  We need to finish out this year strong!

On this day the students will have a wish list to write down a book or two that they would like. They will then bring this list home and you may decide whether or not to purchase the books.  THEN, our class’ day to “buy” will be the following Thursday, May 22nd.  You may send in the money on or before that day along with their wish list with the item/items that you wish to purchase.
