Book Fair:

March is reading month, and we have been having a great time reading, celebrating, and learning about the ocean. Book Fair started on Thursday, and we were able to shop for our wish list this week.  Your child took home their wish list, and our class will return to the book fair to purchase our books on Wednesday, March 27.  Please do not feel pressured to purchase from this sale, but if you would like your child to purchase an item or 2 from their list, please send in the money on or before Wednesday, March 27.

Book Order:

I also sent home a March Book Order with you at conferences.  If you would rather purchase from our classroom book order than from the book fair, these orders are due to me before Friday, March 30.  That is the last day before spring break, and I will be putting in the order over break. Please let me know if you would like another copy of the flyers, or if you need more information about ordering online.  Our classroom online code is: DWNVD, and the website is www.scholastic.com/bookclubs.

3rd Grade Book Sale:

Yet another opportunity to purchase some new reading materials: the 3rd grade classes are having a gently used book sale on Tuesday, March 26.  All of the books will be priced from $.25 - $2.00

Outside Footwear:

As the weather gets warmer, it’s very exciting to be able to wear sandals and flip flops.  However, students are not allowed to wear flip flops out on the playground.  They are more than welcome to wear them inside, but please remember to send socks and shoes for recess time.

Fun to be Fit:
If you are still planning on ordering a t-shirt for the Fun to be Fit run this spring, please send in your order form and money to the office as soon as possible.  The cost of a t-shirt and a student medal is $6.00.  We would like each student who runs the race to be able to take home a medal, and the cost for the medal only is $1.00.  If this is something that you are still interested in, please send in your order forms soon.  If you need another order form, please let me know before spring break.

Dear Families,

Thank you so much to all of you who were able to attend Spring Conferences!  It was so great to be able to chat with you again!

Our first week of reading month was a huge success!!  Yesterday we were able to ‘Read at the Beach,’ and today we enjoyed wearing our beach hats!  We’ve also tied some ocean activities into our science for this month, and we have had a great time learning about ocean animals and making wave bottles.

We have started writing our own books in writing.  The students have been working through the whole writing process of planning, writing, illustrating, editing, and revising.  When they finish a book, they will have the opportunity to share with the whole class in the Author’s chair.  I’m excited to see how all of their writing is progressing!

In reading we have been working on reading to someone.  Each student has a partner, and we’ve been working on our fluency by reading our books with our partners and listening to their reading! Please encourage your child to keep up the good work!

After being spoiled by some warmer weather, we do have quite a bit of snow again.  Please remember to send all necessary snow clothes to school with your child each day:  snowpants, coat, hat, mittens, and boots.  If they do not have snowpants or boots, they need to stay on the cement area during recess, and that’s not quite as much fun for them.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child or our classroom, please feel free to contact me at any time.

Thanks!
