Newsletter March 11-15

Mrs. Freeland's Newsletter

Reading Month

We've been getting wild about reading around here! So far we've read in the jungle, seen and touched some amazing jungle animals from Whispering Pines Mobile Zoo, dressed up as jungle explorers, worn crazy colors and dressed in animal print. We've enjoyed popcorn Fridays and learned some interesting facts about the rainforest and jungles, as well as kinkajous. We've dropped everything to read after Mr. Smith has played some awe inspiring jungle animal sounds. We are really enjoying our amazing reading month activities! Thank you for your support by helping your child to meet their nightly reading goals.

A Macaw and an Umbrella Cockatoo

An Albino Burmese Python from the Whispering Pines Mobile Zoo.

Everyday Mathematics

We took our Unit 7 test today. Monday we will be starting Unit 8-Fractions. The kids are very excited to participate in a fraction activity that I used last year…Skittles fractions!

Reminder

Monday is a Delayed Start Day. Class starts at 10am. Thank you!

The Water Cycle

We are working on wrapping up our water cycle unit in Science. The children have been working so very diligently on this project. They have been awesome investigators and have become experts on the water cycle basics. Our unit will end with students creating a multimedia presentation about what they have learned these past weeks. I’m so excited to see what they come up with!

Parent Survey

Every year our school encourages parents to take its Parent Survey. This year it is provided online instead of by paper. Please take a moment to visit mcbain.org and click on the Elementary Parent Survey. This survey provides important information to our administration. Thank you for your time!

Book Fair

The Book Fair is coming up. A flyer will be coming home on Monday. Our class will be browsing and making our wish lists on Friday, March 22. Students that wish to purchase books should bring their money to school on Tuesday, March 26. Those students will be returning on that day to purchase their items.

Writing

We are working on writing nonfiction stories based on our personal experiences and prior knowledge. We are using nonfiction mentor texts to help us design our stories with text features that we find in these stories. The children are so excited about all of the wonderful facts they are learning. They can’t wait to share this information with others! Ask your child what they have learned so far.
